Monthly Bill Auditing

Responding to many clients’ requests, Prospect Resources provides Monthly Bill Audits. The purpose of the audit is to examine actual usage, verify details in the supplier and utility bills, and compare usage and expenditures to the energy budget provided by PRI.

Usage Review

PRI analyzes actual usage compared to expected usage. Expected usage is based on average historical usage adjusted by current weather conditions. The standard measure of Degree Days (the variance of average daily temperature from 65 degrees) is used to determine the expected usage.

Bill Review

PRI verifies that the charges on the bills are consistent with the supplier contracts and prevailing rates for both the supplier and the utility.

The following items are verified:

  • Billed energy costs (compared to contracted price)
  • Non-energy and utility charges
  • Taxes

Budget Comparison

  • After confirming the accuracy of the bills, the audit compares actual usage and charges to expected values provided in the budget.  The comparison is done on a month-by-month basis, as well as on a cumulative-to-date basis.
  • The monthly audit provides end-users with accurate, current information regarding their energy expenditures.
Engage PRI to develop, manage, and execute your energy strategy.

“Recently, upon request from LUC, PRI audited electricity charges on a series of invoices from a previous supplier. After comparing to contract and further auditing other bills, PRI discovered that LUC had been overbilled by approximately $700,000. The university has been able to reclaim those funds.”
